Super Bowl - XLV - Prop Bet #1
By: Richard O'Malley – Thursday, February 3rd, 2011
Not only does the Super Bowl bring in a lot of action on both the side and the total for the game but it also accounts for endless amounts of prop options. In many cases wagering on the right props is just as time consuming as deciding on the winner and or total for the game itself. Now a days it seems that books are offering Super Bowl props on just about anything and everything a person may want to wager on; from player and team props to whether Christina Aguilera will wear a head set or use a microphone while singing the National Anthem. Which F.Y.I. if your book is offering that prop I hear that Christina Aguilera has used a microphone 8 of the last 10 times she has sung the National Anthem, not that I am advocating such a bet. Although if you are burning for some pre-game wagering I would take that bet over the absolute coin flip shot of guessing, well of guessing the coin flip, which despite recent results is still a 50/50 shot. We have already begun placing some wagers on numerous Super Bowl props and have sent them to our Super Bowl Pass clients, but I would like to expand on one that I really like.

Aaron Rodgers threw the ball 475 times in 15 regular season games (31.7 attempts per game) and 93 times in 3 playoff games (31 attempts per game) for a total of 31.56 attempts per game this season. After Ben Roethlisberger, came back from his suspension in the beginning of the season he threw the ball 389 times in 12 regular games (32.4 attempts per game) but in the playoffs he only threw the ball 51 times in 2 games (25.5 attempts per game) as their running game began to produce slightly better numbers. For the season as a whole Roethlisberger threw the ball 31.43 times per game. The difference overall is not very big, but the difference during the post-season is certainly bigger. Ultimately I think that the difference will be made in how the game is played out. As of right now I think that the Green Bay Packers may find it difficult to run the ball against the Pittsburgh Steelers, although I think that they will have to make attempts at it throughout the game to keep the Steelers defense “honest”. On the flip-side I do think that the Steelers will have an easier time running the ball on the Packers defense than throwing the ball on the Packers defense. With that said I can see the Steelers trying to establish a run game and pound the ball a good portion of the time on offense, especially if they can see it working. The Steelers secondary is no joke as everyone around the league knows and they do not often give up big play yardage. I can see Rodgers being perfectly happy dumping the ball off short in front of the Steelers secondary for most of the game, moving the chains through short passes and thus racking up many completion attempts.

The Verdict - Take Aaron Rodgers (-2.5) pass attempts (-130) {5 Dimes}, as always good luck to all!
